Sagacity

My 2012 Photojourney

Here is a selection of my Photojourney for 2012. It was a year of learning, up until this year I never had worked out what kind of photography I loved, I now have discovered Landscape and what I call HDR Plus – The music is from around 1995 when I was in a band called ‘Sagacity’, I wrote the music and played guitar on the track, My cousin Darrin wrote and sang lyrics, his brother Matt played Bass and and another cousin, Brad played drums… a bit of a family affair! It was a lot of fun so I thought I would share it along with my photojourney for 2012… enjoy!

Beer glorious beer!

Beer is the second most popular beverage in the world!

Only to be pipped at the post by tea… who would have thought that tea was a more popular drink than beer? Here’s a few weird facts about Beer…

1. Beer was often used as medicine in the medieval times, I still think it is today for some!

2. In some parts of India the legal drinking age is 25…

3.  Brewing Beer was woman’s work… In medieval Europe brewing was one of a housewife’s regular tasks, just like cooking and cleaning and baby making.

the daily pic – Beer glorious Beer

So here is a pic from the Hunter Valley in NSW. This is Potters Brewery and is one of the few places making beer in the Hunter (predominately known for wine). If you’re heading to Potters Brewery I can recommend getting the tasting paddle, make sure you have a designated driver, or, you have booked a room for the night and enjoy…

I went to Church!

If you know me, I am not religious and I am unlikely to head into a church for any other reason than a friends wedding, christening, a funeral or as in this case… to take a photo. The one thing I love about churches is the Architecture, this church is a classic example, it is not ornate, it has been kept simple, and as a result is actually quite a striking church! This church is located at Hunter Valley Gardens.

I was in the Hunter Valley a month or so ago and quickly peered into this church, and wanted to take a pic, but there was someone praying, and whilst I may not be religious I don’t believe in disturbing those that are, so I moved on without my pic. I just happened to be back in the Hunter Valley on Business, and when my meeting had finished, I popped into the Church to find it empty, so I took the opportunity to take this pic!

Besides the architecture, I was also interested in shooting this church to try out my HDR and photoshop skills. You see, to get everything exposed properly, took a lot of work. In fact, I took 7 photos, merged 4 of them together, then spent about an hour (or maybe two!) layer masking to remove the colour cast from the longer exposures.

I am pretty happy with the result. Let me know what you think!

A rainy morning in the Hunter Valley

I was staying at the Hunter Valley for the weekend and was hoping that this morning I would get some nice weather so I could get out and about before heading home and take a few photo’s. I was up about 30 mins before sunrise and heard the rain teaming down outside. I decided to head out and grab a coffee and then went for a drive to see if I could capture the misty rainy morning in the Valley… this was the result!
