A Dose of Reality

Reality Show for Photographers

They have reality show’s for cooks, tattoo artists, singers, performers, designers… why not for photographers (has this been done and I just missed it?) – I am working on this as project for 2013, and rather than it being held on TV, it will all be web based… the public will vote and over 10 weeks, 10 of the finest photographers will battle it out for the number one spot. So here is my first shout out… I need sponsors to make it happen, although winning should be awesome enough, winning a prize will make it even more awesome! If you are keen on talking to me about getting involved (i.e.. giving me stuff to give away) then leave a comment here or shoot me an email at bfewtrell @ me dot com (of course, remove all of the spaces and use a REAL dot!) – if you are a photographer wanting to take part… stay tuned for your entry kit.

Today’s iCandy – QVB

I had heard that you get told off for using a tripod in the QVB, then I read a post from another photographer saying how nice it was they did not seem to care he was using his tripod… so I thought, why not! The whole time I wandered around the QVB no one bothered me about my tripod… it was nice!

Fuji X-E1 v’s Sony NEX-6

A head to head battle…

I was hoping to do a comparison between the NEX 7 and the X-E1 as I know many people are wondering how they compare. Now Sony has released the NEX 6, the specs of this camera are very close to the specs of the Fuji X-E1 but can it come close to the image quality that Fuji has created?

The Camera Store TV has put these two cameras head to head in the Fuji XE-1 vs Sony NEX-6 Shootout…

Today’s iCandy – Up…or Down?

I worked on this one for a while, and I did a lot more than I would normally do… sometimes I get inspired and carried away when I am processing a photo and use a bit of creative license. I usually have my iTunes playing in the background and just get into a rhythm and in most cases, something good pops out the other end. I don’t normally share any before pics with you, but today I am going to so you can play spot the difference, Here you will see that sometimes, Photomatix doesn’t do a great job… I ended up not using the photomatix image in my final version and just used Photoshop and Topaz Adjust to create the final image. I have also included my “the aliens are coming” version of the pic below (I have no idea what possessed me to make an aliens version… maybe it was the aliens!) – So… that only leaves the question… is this lift going up, or down?

The Before Photo

This is after I had used Photomatix to create my HDR image

today’s iCandy – Armidale Catholic Church

Whenever I am travelling I like to check out each destination to see what may be there to capture. On my recent road trip up to the Gold Coast I knew I would be stopping at Armidale for the night. I found out about this old church and wanted to get inside to capture it. I was up early Sunday morning and before anyone had arrived I found a lovely lady that gave me permission to go inside and snap away. I love the detail and architecture of these old churches and whenever I get the chance I try to shoot them, they make really great HDR subjects too!

The Opera House

It looks as though our Opera House has been renovated!

I came across this picture and was amazed at how the architecture of this temple in India was so similar to our Opera House. This picture by the way is courtesy of http://pixhd.net and is of the lotus Temple in New Delhi.

the daily pic – The Opera House

So here you go, here is a pic of the Opera House here in Sydney. I headed out early one morning to get a sunrise shot, and well, the weather is not always great here in Sydney! it was interesting to see how many photographers were out and about, if you look closely there is one with a yellow t-shirt in this shot!

Dazzling Lights – The Gold Coast at Night

There is something about a shot of a city at night! I love this one for two reasons… firstly, it was taken from the 31st floor of Peppers Broadbeach and gives a wonderful perspective  of the gold coast, you can even see the blinking red light on top of Q1, it is the tallest building in Australia, the tallest building in the southern hemisphere and was the tallest in the world until some punk in Dubai built a bigger one! You can read more about the Q1 HERE. The second reason I love this pic is the way the city lights reflect off the cloud above, turning an otherwise boring sky into a dramatic scene!
