Centrepoint Tulips

artFido

I am always wondering what will show up online in our virtual world next… A friend of mine owns an art gallery, and told me about this online gallery, sort of like eBay, but for art! You can find it by visiting www.artFido.com – I will be offering my photo’s for sale on artFido, and maybe when I have limited run prints this is where I can sell them… hopefully it is a good place for a photographer to display their work!

I know, kind of silly really! I just thought it kind of looked like the Centrepoint Tower was a tulip… enjoy!

Guarding the Heads

I love photography

I find it inspiring to check out other photographers work, the internet has made it really easy to do just that. One of the best places to find active groups of photographers is Facebook. I have just joined a group called ‘I love photography’ and have found it to be a good place to share some pics, and to check out other photographers work from around the world.

This is not the first time I have posted this lighthouse. I really wanted to capture a lighthouse and decided that this was the one… especially considering it’s uniqueness. I actually arrived a little past the ideal part of sunrise, I usually like to catch the light just before the sun rises above the horizon… it this case I was really happy with the results… enjoy!

The Glass House

37 Days and counting!

I have a trip booked for Beijing and I will be leaving in 37 days! I have been researching and where we are staying is within a short drive to about 9 really cool landmarks and attractions. I have no idea how to speak Chinese and I am looking forward to fumbling my way around the city as I take a few photo’s. I am actually there for a conference but will do my best to see if I can get out and about each day to explore.

I have lived in Sydney all my life and never knew we had such a cool glass house in the Botanical Gardens, I really like the rainbow of colours form the light refracting through the glass… enjoy!

Photomatix Pro Tutorial

How to use Photomatix Pro to create your HDR image

I had a lot of people ask me how to create a HDR image, and whilst it is fairly simple, it isn’t easy to explain in a blog post. I have created a short video of me using Photomatix and explaining what I was doing during the process. HERE IT IS

the daily pic – GOLD

I have done very little to enhance the colours in this photo, it was an amazing sunrise, in fact, the best one I have seen in 2012! Sometimes nature just ‘turns it on’ for me… luckily… it makes me look good!

Dawn Princess

the daily pic – Dawn Princess

I was at the Harbour one morning when I was lucky enough that two cruise ships were coming in together. I assume that the one on the left ‘Rhapsody of the Seas’ is too tall to fit under the bridge, it doesn’t look like the Dawn Princess cleared it by much…

My Gear

Photography Stuff

I have done some updating to the My Gear page, and will continue to add more info over the coming weeks. A lot of people ask me for my opinion when it come to photography gear… hopefully the My Gear page will help you decide!

As I try new gear I will do my best to update the blog, if you see me using something and you want to know more about it, shoot me a message and I will create a page dedicated to it.

Really Right Stuff

A serious Ball Head

Talk about quick delivery! It amazes me that I can usually get something that ships from the USA quicker than something locally! You would think that the Aussie sellers would get their act together…

I ordered a BH55 Ball Head from Really Right Stuff last week and it has already arrived. I will add a page dedicated to it once I get some use from it, but so far it is a very impressive piece of equipment!

My first impression is this will be the last Ball Head I will ever have to buy. It is well built and is going to take whatever I can throw at it… next is the carbon fibre legs to go with it… stay tuned…

On Track

Icy start to the day

This morning was the first morning I had woken to ice on the car… it must have reached freezing last night and whilst in some cities that is  normal, we don’t get that many mornings that are that cold. One of the advantages of winter for the photographer is the sun rise is later in the morning, effectively giving me a sleep in! The downside is that it gets very cold!

the daily pic – On Track

This was from my visit to Clarence, the Zig Zag railway was operating the last service it will operate until the government helps them with some funding. There aren’t very many locations where you can stand on the tracks and safely get  a photo… enjoy!

On The Bridge

Looking for Sunset Locations

If you have any ideas of great locations for me to shoot at sunset, let me know. I am using an app on the iPad called stuck on earth and it is great for finding new spots, but if you know somewhere that is good I will put your location onto my ‘must shoot’ list.

the daily pic – On The Bridge

I think I have some sort of addiction to bridges, jetty’s and lighthouses! This was the second time shooting sunrise at Bare Island La Perouse, the first time the fog was thick and surprisingly, I was pleased with the images… as you can see from this one, the fog was no where to be seen!

Little Dog… Big Attitude

Really Right Stuff

Well I finally took the plunge and ordered myself a high quality Ball head for my tripod. Next I will look at replacing the tripod itself. I ordered the RRS BH-55 ballhead, it was shipped today so hopefully I will have it in a week or two!

Meet Rocky… he is one of our pets and is a top little fella! Here it looks like butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth, but those that know him, are aware that he can be a little feisty! He doesn’t like strangers at all and is known to nip at visitors heels!

the daily pic – Stairway to Heaven

On my hike to the Barrenjoey Lighthouse I decided to take Smugglers Track… shorter… but steeper! There was about 500 metres of these stairs to climb and with 12kg of gear on my back my legs were sore the next day! It was raining too, it made for really nice cool hiking weather and the scenery was well worth the effort… enjoy!
