Hornby Lighthouse

HDR Photography Tutorial

If you’re interested in photography you may be wandering how you can possibly take a photo into the sun? After all, it goes against all the rules in the photography rule book! Well, HDR is the answer, for todays daily pic I took several exposures, 7 to be exact and then I processed them using a technique called HDR. Click Here to learn how you can do HDR!

the daily pic – Hornby Lighthouse

I loved this lighthouse… there aren’t many lighthouses painted as vibrantly as this! This one is located at Sydney’s South Head, it’s an 800mtr walk from Camp Cove parking area. I arrived a little later than I would have liked so I will definitely be heading back here for another sunrise shoot soon! enjoy….

Rhapsody Opera

Wanna hang out in the SLR lounge?

I found this cool Facebook page/group. Well, okay, it’s only cool if you’re into photography, otherwise it’s probably kinda boring! Anyway, if you find all things photography interesting then you may enjoy hanging out in the SLR lounge.

the daily pic – Rhapsody Opera

Here is another pic from when I managed to get a few shots of Rhapsody of the Seas docking in Sydney Harbour. If you caught my post earlier in the week you would have seen the shot I grabbed with the Harbour Bridge, In this shot I included the Opera House, it is really cool to see the perspective in size in this photo… the cruise ship makes the Opera House look small!

What do you have eBay to thank for?

I always scour eBay for photography bargains, and chuck silly bids on stuff I would like if I got it for the right price. I found a lens on Ebay, brand new in the box, used a couple of times, it was a wide angle lens, not something I have ever wanted, nor did I think I wanted. So I made a low ball offer… and would you know it, the seller accepted it! I thought to myself, I will just re-list it and make a couple of hundred bucks.

When I received it I had to try it out first… you know, before I re-listed it on eBay… it only took a couple of shots for me to realise what a cracker of a lens it was… and how much fun a wide angle lens is! So you guessed it… it never got re-listed and now lives on my camera 90% of the time!

So I have eBay to thank for helping me discover photography with an UWA (Ultra Wide Angle) lens!

the daily pic – Cell A24

Here’s a pic, that without an UWA lens you wouldn’t get much detail into your shot. This is cell A24 in Fremantle Prison. The walls in this cell were painted between 1988 and 1991. Prison rules didn’t allow inmates to deface their cell walls but this prisoner was given special permission for therapeutic reasons.

The Opera House

It looks as though our Opera House has been renovated!

I came across this picture and was amazed at how the architecture of this temple in India was so similar to our Opera House. This picture by the way is courtesy of http://pixhd.net and is of the lotus Temple in New Delhi.

the daily pic – The Opera House

So here you go, here is a pic of the Opera House here in Sydney. I headed out early one morning to get a sunrise shot, and well, the weather is not always great here in Sydney! it was interesting to see how many photographers were out and about, if you look closely there is one with a yellow t-shirt in this shot!

Q1

My pic is featured on the Photomerchant page!

Photomerchant is the company that I use to host my portfolio, they are an Aussie company that is the solution for anyone that wants to be able to sell their photo’s online. If you head to their Facebook page, you will see my image ‘Sunkissed’ featured as their cover image… and out of hundreds, maybe thousands of photographers they work with, they were happy to have my image up in lights!

the daily pic – Q1

I have a few shots from when I stayed at Broadbeach. I took these when I was on my balcony, level 31 of Peppers resort. If you look into the distance you can see Q1, the tallest building in the southern hemisphere.

Rhapsody of the Seas

The Wacom Intuos 4 – a quick review…

Okay, so some of you are asking… what the heck is a Wacom Intuos 4???? and some of you are thinking… cool, I always wanted one!

Wacom are the company behind the Bamboo tablet, and many other professional graphics tablets. The Intuos 4 is one of Wacom’s more recent developments, I believe there is a Intuos 5 now, so I am sure that is even better than what I have. I went with the Intuos 4 after reading a couple of reviews about it. For my purposes, which is image post processing,  I have gone with the small one, and I find it is perfect! I mostly use it for when I am masking layers in photoshop. It is accurate and much faster than trying to use the mouse!

So for any of you photography buffs out there that are sitting on the fence when it comes to a graphics tablet… do yourself a favour and just go get one! You will never look back…

the daily pic – Rhapsody of the Seas

I headed into the city early one morning to see what I could capture and was lucky that there were two ships coming into Sydney Harbour, Rhapsody of the Seas and Dawn Princess. I got a couple of pics of each, this one of Rhapsody of the Seas docking at Circular Quay is my favourite… enjoy!

The Jetty

The early bird gets the worm

Or the early rising photographer hopes to get the sunrise! In photography there is what they call ‘the golden hour’, this happens twice a day, sunrise and sunset. During the middle of the day the sun is high and harsh and makes photo’s look flat and boring. During the golden hour, the sun helps the sky put on a display of colour that will attract oohs and ahhs!

Getting up early has not really been something I am a fan of, however, besides the benefit of the colour in the sky during sunrise, there are very few people up at that hour and it makes it easy to get landscape pics without people getting in the way, I am finding myself starting to really enjoy watching the sun rise!

the daily pic – the jetty

This is a classic example of the colour that can be found at sunrise. I took this on my recent motorcycle trip up the north coast, this is a jetty in Port Macquarie… enjoy!

the daily pic – Panda Candy

I took this pic whilst wandering around Sydney Harbour foreshore. It was one of those moments when I was just at the right place at the right time… the lighting was perfect.

Praying for Freedom

OnOne software have some freebies!

It isn’t often that you can get something for free, but onOne software are bending the rules and doing just that! Before I go any further, I do not have any affiliation with onOne nor do I get any financial reward or benefit from them for mentioning their software. I think it’s kinda cool software and if you’re into adding effects to your photos then their software is for you!

They’re not throwing the baby out with the bath water so you will still have to part with some hard earned coin if you want the full version! However, the freebies they’re giving away still have plenty of effects you can use without limitation or watermarks! So why not give them a go… http://www.ononesoftware.com/free/

the daily pic – Praying for Freedom

This is a photo I took whilst on the Fremantle Prison tour. It is the prison church, and I have used one of the free onOne textures on the walls to give it an older sort of look just to show you what is possible. I love the old piano in the corner and could only imagine some of the prayers that were made in this room! I have included a before onOne and after onOne so you can see the difference.

Here is the before onOne texture being applied…

and after the onOne texture was applied to the walls….
